Giving Back: Meet LS&Co. Community Ambassador Vivian Li

Levi Strauss & Co.
May 1, 2015

Community Day — our company-wide day of service — is one of the most anticipated days of the year for Levi Strauss & Co. employees. Everyone looks forward to stepping away from their day jobs for the day to give back. Our Community Ambassadors are key to making the day successful and memorable because they help plan volunteer projects for their local offices.

As they do every year, our Community Ambassadors have done a stellar job selecting volunteer projects that will make an impact. We’ve had the chance to catch up with a few of them to find out a bit more about what they have planned for this year’s Community Day (you can read our previous interviews here and here).

This week we’re talking with Vivian Li, assistant manager of logistics for outbound operation and 3PL management.

Here’s what she had to say:

  • How long have you been with the company?
    More than 10 years.

  • What organization are you working with on Community Day?
This year we will continue working with Thirst, an NGO focused on raising awareness about water among 14- to 24-year-old Chinese consumers.

  • Why did you select this project?
Thirst is an initiative of the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum. Their mission is to educate young people in China about the global water crisis through interactive workshops, classroom activities, creative social media games and user-generated content. I think it is a very interesting project for everybody, and their vision is very consistent with that of our company.

  • Tell us a little bit about the work that volunteers will be doing.
We will be carrying out various activities in four cities across China where we have offices: Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Our employees and school students will come together for a number of activities promoting the protection of water resources and encouraging everyone to change their water habits.

  • Why is this project valuable to your community?
We are partnering with Thirst to showcase LS&Co. as a water leader and to generate enthusiasm and support for our water work among our employees and stakeholders in China, and to help Thirst continue to grow their movement.

  • What inspired you to serve as a Community Ambassador?
I wanted more people to know and understand our company. I love LS&Co.!

  • What’s your favorite part about serving as a Community Ambassador?
I love that on the same day, all employees across the globe put down their work to do the same thing. And seeing everyone happily participating in the activity, and benefiting from it, is a very happy thing for me.

  • Is there a quote or sentence that helps guide you in life?
Every cloud has a silver lining.
