What’s Old Is New Again: Evergreen Trends for 2017

“That is so 2016” could actually be the greatest fashion compliment you receive this year.

Who What Wear recently dove into the 2016 trends that are expected to stay put for 2017, several of which will be familiar to Levi’s® fans and followers: Think higher rise “mom jeans,” lighter washes, raw hems, and perfectly misplaced pockets.

Last year, Levi’s® was at the forefront of evolving the quintessential mom jean into what we now know as The Wedgie Jean, a new fit introduced in the Levi’s® Spring 2016 collection. The vintage-inspired women’s jean embodies the heritage of the iconic 505™. By tweaking the pattern to accentuate the waist, fit snugly at the hips, and show off a woman’s curves, the jeans are simultaneously 2017 sexy and audaciously old-school. Look closely: The back pockets of the Wedgie Jean are slightly tilted inwards, adding the allure of the ultimate “mom butt.”

The world-wide wedgie isn’t the only denim trend that’s here to stay. The Levi’s® 501 Skinny jeans, also unveiled in 2016, are “the perfect example that a subtle raw hem makes all the difference,” Melissa Moylan, Creative Director of Womenswear at Fashion Snoops, a trend-forecasting agency, told Who What Wear. Hear straight from the creative minds at Levi’s® for a deeper dive into the evolution of this denim classic.

There’s more up our sleeves than evolving our classic denim. Sweatshirts, a style staple among Generation Z and upmarket-casual fans alike, came back in a big way last year and will continue to trend in 2017, according to Moylan. Check out Levi’s® range of Boyfriend Crewneck Sweatshirts — how deliciously vintage and versatile are the citrus and marshmallow? — to keep you warm and looking hot.

“Sweatshirts obviously tap into the athleisure trend, but they’re also a key fashion item. Hoodies and oversized shapes are great for the young contemporary market, while other updates include prints, embroideries, or ruffles,” Moylan said.
