And then there were four.
If the designs from our Denim 2020: Levi’s® x ARTS THREAD Design Challenge applicants are any indication of what denim will look like in the coming years, our fashion future looks bright.
The talent pool from the design students who participated in our Denim 2020 contest exceeded our expectations, leaving us with the daunting task of choosing the best of the best. From the overwhelming 500 submissions we received, we have officially selected our top four applicants who have surpassed our denim dreams.
The challenge invited fashion design students to submit an entry showing a vision for what denim will look like in 2020. The winning students will receive a paid 10-week design internship at LS&Co.’s San Francisco headquarters this summer. We received hundreds of submissions from 27 countries and 50 nationalities.
After weeks of deliberation and careful consideration, our expert panel chose the entries with the most outstanding moodboards, eye-catching sketches, and in-depth trend reports, which was no easy feat.
And the four student contestants who will spend their summer in-house are:
Matilda Barrowcliff – Edinburgh College of Art
Angela Fusco – Nottingham Trent University
Ryan Houlton – Royal College of Art
Cavan McPherson – Manchester School of Art MMU
Congratulations to the winners and all of the applicants!  For those who did not make it through to the coveted top spots, some wise words of advice from Jonathan Cheung, Levi’s® SVP of global design:
Let me leave you with a piece of advice that I wish I could have given myself when I was a student, which is to ‘trust yourself’. You have already made a brave decision to follow your heart into fashion design. Stay curious. Swim out into the deep water. It’s OK to be a little bit afraid, but know that you can do a lot more than you think. Take on life with courage, persistence and grab hold of every experience you can. Trust your instincts, you have the world in front of you and there will be times when you’ll ask yourself which way to turn. At those points, follow your heart.”
