At Levi Strauss & Co., we believe in supporting the communities we call home. That’s why last year, LS&Co. partnered with local companies to launch the Downtown Volunteer Coalition (DVC), driving corporate volunteerism and engagement to support revitalization in San Francisco.
Originally founded by LS&Co. alongside Gap Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Visa Inc. and Wells Fargo and Company, the DVC is pleased to announce the expansion of the project, welcoming Crusoe, FleishmanHillard, the Golden State Warriors, Google and the San Francisco Giants to the initiative.
Expanding on LS&Co.’s ongoing efforts to support our hometown’s revitalization, the DVC aims to bring more people to our sidewalks by attracting people downtown to support the arts, small businesses and other cultural events. Since launching the coalition, the participating companies have partnered with community-based organizations to engage over 450 employees in more than 1,000 volunteer hours. To date, 16 service projects have been completed, including refreshing and restoring community spaces, revitalizing parks and playgrounds, and engaging in street clean-up activities.
“We are thrilled to welcome five new companies to the Downtown Volunteer Coalition,” said Alexis Bechtol, director of Community Affairs at LS&Co. “San Francisco is our home, and by partnering with like-minded companies and nonprofits, mobilizing employees for volunteering and expanding on other revitalization efforts such as the recently launched mural project, we can make a real difference in the city that has given us so much for more than 170 years.”
With support from HandsOn Bay Area, the DVC develops multiple cross-company volunteer events centered around downtown and surrounding neighborhoods to meet the needs of local nonprofit partners and local businesses. Today, DVC members will come together for street cleanup and beautification projects in neighborhoods around downtown San Francisco in partnership with HandsOn Bay Area, Refuse Refuse, San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and Department of Public Works.
Together, our companies and employees can make San Francisco a vibrant place for companies to operate, encourage employees to spend time in and around their offices, and support local arts, culture and small businesses.
If you’re a company with a presence in San Francisco, we encourage you to join the effort. Visit www.handsonbayarea.org/downtown-volunteer-coalition for more information.
