We Denounce Anti-Semitism

Chip Bergh, President and CEO
Levi Strauss & Co.

The recent rise in anti-Semitism across the United States is dangerous and deeply troubling. At Levi Strauss & Co., we unequivocally denounce and reject anti-Semitism in all its forms and stand with the Jewish community and all those facing hate and discrimination across our country.

Over the past few years, we have seen a steady and persistent increase in harassment and violence against the Jewish community, with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reporting a record number of anti-Semitic incidents across the U.S. in 2021. And the watchdog group says 2022 is trending in an unfortunately similar direction. The viciousness of these attacks is only matched by their pervasiveness. We are horrified by the growth of anti-Semitism within media and social media, with a steady deluge of hate spewed both by anonymous bigots and leaders and influencers who wield considerably more power. This can only lead to more violence and suffering. It cannot be normalized and accepted.

Hate and discrimination have not been limited to any one group or community in recent years. We are seeing disturbing increases in discrimination in communities throughout our country, with countless despicable acts of violence, racism and discrimination targeting Asian, Black, Latinx, LGBTQ+ and Muslim communities. This type of bigotry pulls at the fabric of society and runs counter to the values of our company and the country. We at LS&Co. have a responsibility to our employees, our fans and our communities to fight hatred in all its forms.

And that’s why we won’t be silent now. In addition to using our voice and platform to take a stand against anti-Semitism, LS&Co. will provide a $100,000 grant to the Southern Poverty Law Center to help fight against bigotry and begin to dismantle anti-Semitism. Hatred against Jewish people must be condemned, admonished and rooted out wherever it hides.

We continue to be fully committed to using our platform and our voice to advocate for real equality and fight against discrimination in all its forms.
