Credited with leading the company’s storied turnaround and using his platform to take bold social stances, Levi Strauss & Co. President and CEO Chip Bergh has been named to Fortune’s “World’s Greatest Leaders” list, ranking 16th out of 50 leaders from across the globe.
Since joining the company in 2011, Chip has focused on turning the company back into a profitable business worthy of its iconic status. As Fortune put it, “Bergh brought the cool back, marketing Levi’s as hip Americana with a celebrity pedigree.”
“I’m honored to be included on this list with such remarkable company,” Chip said. “But I’m also incredibly proud of the company I keep here at Levi Strauss & Co. – a combination of great leaders and individuals who bring their best every day. Returning an iconic American company back to growth and the center of culture is not a one-person job, and I share this honor with them.”
But it’s not just the company’s success that landed Chip on the list. He has also been a vocal advocate for gun violence prevention, most recently standing with other prominent leaders asking Congress to pass legislation that would require background checks on all gun sales.
