LS&Co., Scholastic and Project WET Team Up to Provide Water Education to 1.5 Million Students

How early is too early to start learning about water impact and sustainability? Never! LS&Co. is pleased to announce our partnership with Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, and the Project WET Foundation, where we’re set to provide water impact education to around 1.5 million elementary school children across the U.S.
Scholastic adapted Project WET Foundation and LS&Co.’s existing education program to bring water impact knowledge to students enrolled in grades three through five. With the updated program, called “Our Watery World,” kids will learn how to become water ambassadors at home, at school and within their greater communities.
Throughout the three in-classroom lessons, the program will:

  • Introduce students to the concept of a water footprint and provide them with a deeper understanding of how their daily actions affect the planet’s resources.
  • Teach kids where usable water on Earth is located, who the biggest users of Earth’s water resources are and how important water is to people, plants and animals.
  • Provide an education around how much water everyday items use throughout their lifecycle.

“Scholastic National Partnerships is very excited to be launching the Our Watery World program with Levi Strauss & Co. and Project WET, said Ann Amstutz-Hayes, SVP Scholastic National Partnerships. “Our collective goal is for this program to educate and inspire millions of schools and young people around the country to come together to help conserve water.”
But that’s not all: Students will also have the opportunity to submit their water-saving solutions in the “Conserve Water at Your School Sweepstakes” for a chance to receive a $10,000 grant from LS&Co. to bring their water-saving idea to life within their very own school. All students have to do to enter is answer the question, “What would you do to conserve water at your school?” and submit their response by February 1, 2017.
