At LS&Co.’s San Francisco HQ, there are still a handful of us mourning the 49ers absence in the big game this year. Luckily, we have the perfect thing to cheer us up and remind us to not take the game quite so seriously. At 3:00 PM this Sunday, it’s Puppy Bowl, people!
For the 11th year, Animal Planet will air arguably the most competitive and intense sporting event on television, in which 85 puppies between the ages of 12 and 21 weeks battle it out on a miniature field for “top dog.” This year, Team Ruff faces off against Team Fluff — with only one lucky pack of canine super-athletes taking home the coveted ‘LomBARKi’ trophy. And cat-lovers, never fear. The Puppy Bowl’s Kitty Half-Time Show — with a special performance by Katty Furry — ensures that no feline is left behind in the festivities.
The program brings more than entertainment value — it also benefits a great cause. All the star puppies in play are eligible for adoption, and the Bowl itself educates viewers about the option of getting your pup from a shelter. Plus, in partnership with the live broadcast, the pop-up Puppy Bowl Café in downtown Phoenix partnered with the Arizona Humane Society to showcase even more foster puppies on the football field— many of whom have been nursed to better health during pre-season training.
As a lighthearted ode to one of our favorite warm and — literally — fuzzy television moments, we’ve rounded up 12 of our favorite denim-clad pets from the internet. From kittens cuddling in their 501s, to dogs sporting pupcycled denim coats, to a rogue indigo-clad ferret, these adorable creatures only make us that much more excited about cuddling up on Game Day. Because, if we can’t see Kaepernick bring down the house in Arizona — at least we can take solace in some adorable little fur balls tumbling around on a mini football field — and maybe even adopt one of them!
