Sustainability is sewn into the fabric of everything we do at Levi Strauss & Co. — from how our clothing is made to the work we do to help protect our planet. We’re doing what we can to increase transparency and environmental management, both within our own walls and throughout our supply chain through an ever-growing assortment of activities around the globe. In China, we’re proud that we achieved a top ranking from the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) for our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our supply chain.

IPE released findings from its latest Corporate Information Transparency Index (CITI), which measures the performance of apparel brands in managing the environmental impacts of factories in their supply chains in China. LS&Co. was among the top-ranking apparel companies in the CITI, ranking third in the apparel industry and fourth across all industries.

“We’re honored to receive a top ranking from IPE this year, and the progress we’ve made is a reflection of several focused initiatives executed by a highly dedicated team,” said Arun Bhardwaj, LS&Co.’s managing director of Greater China. “LS&Co. is committed to raising the bar on sustainability and leading the industry in reducing our own environmental impacts and those of our suppliers.”

IPE is a Beijing-based registered nonprofit organization created to promote the disclosure of environmental information and to make corporate supply chains in China more sustainable. The CITI evaluation is based on data platforms and public information disclosure, and is designed to be a green supply chain roadmap. It measures brands in areas such as engagement and responsiveness, compliance and corrective actions, green supply chain transparency, data disclosure and responsible recycling.

We look forward to rolling out further enhancements to our sustainability programs in China in the coming year.
