Bringing Our Values to Life on Community Day

May 7, 2014

Today is one of the most popular days of the year here at Levi Strauss & Co. It’s when almost 4,000 employees step away from their desks and give back to the communities where we live and work. When we honor Levi Strauss by bringing the values he instilled in our company to life.

As part of this year’s Community Day, Levi Strauss & Co. will donate $300,000 in community grants and more than 30,000 volunteer hours across the globe. From cleaning up local parks to washing dogs at animal shelters and providing fun shopping experiences for children who don’t normally have access to new clothes, this is a day when we get to volunteer our time and resources, and thank our nonprofit partners who make such a positive impact on our communities.

Nancy Wall, manager of Community Affairs for LS&Co., helps coordinate and organize Community Day projects for the company across the globe. “Community Day is one of my all-time favorite days of the year,” said Nancy. “Our employees pour so much time and energy into making a perfect day for everyone. It’s amazing to see them making such great connections with each other and our community partners year in and year out.”

Here’s a quick snapshot of the impact we’ve made through Community Day:

  • $4 million: Total amount we’ve given in Community Day grants since 2000
  • 400,000: Hours volunteered on Community Day since 2000
  • 156: Community Day projects this year
  • 80: Offices participating this year
  • 46: Countries supported by Community Day this year
  • 14: Years we’ve held Community Day

But our commitment to community doesn’t stop on Community Day. All year round, our employee-led Community Involvement Teams (CITs) partner with local charitable organizations to identify needs, plan activities and create volunteer and donation opportunities.

It’s thanks to these employees who volunteer year-round and those who step up today that we can continue to create a positive impact in the community and carry on Levi’s legacy.
