A new pair of jeans can make a huge difference to any child, especially one used to hand-me-downs.

That’s why Levi Strauss & Co. partnered with the San Francisco 49ers last week. The two provided 215 San Francisco Bay Area foster youth with a pair of new Levi’s® jeans. The kids, aged 4-18, also received t-shirts and backpacks.

At any given time, California has some 60,000 children living in foster care. Many of them enter the system with little or no possessions. And while foster parents receive a monthly stipend to help support the costs involved, it’s often far less than what it actually takes to serve the needs of a growing child.

In addition to the clothes and backpacks, Levi Strauss & Co. and the 49ers donated $30,000 – money that will be divided among six Bay Area nonprofits that serve these children.

Backpack Stuffing

Earlier in the week at LS&Co. headquarters, Levi Strauss and 49ers employee volunteers filled the backpacks with the jeans and other items. And the kids received their gifts last Thursday at the 49ers Headquarters in Santa Clara. They were also able to watch a 49ers practice.

We’re thrilled to partner with the 49ers on such a great project. The 49ers Foundation’s mission of “Keeping Kids Safe, On Track and In School” is one we can definitely get behind. And it’s another reason we’re proud that, starting next year, the 49ers will be playing their home games at Levi’s® Stadium.
