To help community organizations become more sustainable, Levi Strauss & Co. has launched a $100,000 denim insulation fund, an initiative designed to reuse unwanted denim while keeping it out of landfills. The company will provide grants to organizations currently undergoing construction projects to offset the cost difference between using conventional insulation and recycled denim insulation.

Among other factors, the selection criteria includes: the organization’s sustainability vision; the project’s environmental and social impacts; how the project can teach others about sustainability. The company will accept proposals from U.S.-based non-profit 501(c) 3 organizations October 1 – November 21, 2010.
