Handmade Hope in Guatemala...and at Levi's®

The people – that’s what inspired me most when I first lived in Guatemala as a college student. The strength, determination, and spirit of Guatemala’s indigenous people, despite the unspeakable hardships they had endured and the battles they are still fighting today: poverty, discrimination, illiteracy, and malnutrition. The indigenous people of Guatemala completely captured my heart. I felt an obligation to partner with them and to be part of a solution: to connect them to the resources and markets they needed to build a better future.

Dressing Smart – On the Job and on the Town.

My love for fashion and design started at a young age when my mom taught me how to sew. Growing up, and even throughout college while I studied neuroscience, I knew I needed an outlet to express my creativity. At the time, I didn’t have a TV, so the sewing machine and stereo became the faithful companions to my design and clothes-making. Lights! Camera! iPhone!

In the summer sci-fi flick Super 8, some movie-making middle-schoolers uncover an out-of-this-world monster. The discovery happens as they’re using their Super 8 camera to make a film of their own.If the movie has inspired you to channel your inner J.J. Abrams or Stephen Spielberg – the guys behind Super 8 – chances are, you’re more likely to have access to a camera phone than a movie camera. As it turns out, there’s an app for that! And it’s free for, as they say, a limited time only.

Your Two-Wheeled, Urban Commute
Just Got Better

As a cyclist and a Levi’s® guy, I’m pretty excited about our new Commuter line – clothing designed for the needs of the urban commuter cyclist. We’re launching it this week with the 511™ Commuter Skinny Jean and the Commuter Trucker Jacket. Progress. But More to Do.

If you pass by the Levi’s® store in New York’s Meatpacking District (pictured above) or Soho neighborhood, you might see something that catches your eye. I’m not talking about our amazing Water<Less™ or Curve ID jeans, but window displays that support a fight for equality. In this case, marriage equality. Now that the State of New York has made same-sex marriage legal, the windows take on new significance, particularly at this time of the year. June is when people across the U.S. and around the world celebrate gay rights.

Bicycles Built for 50

I cried at work last week, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.A bit of background. One of my responsibilities here at Levi’s® is to help put together the annual sales conference for our retail managers from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The conference is a big deal, and it requires months of planning. The ultimate goal is to send our managers off feeling energized, so they can then motivate their teams and better connect with our consumers.
