This is a pair of Levi's®, buttons and rivets and pockets and cuffs, and the thread that holds it together. When the road gets rough and the sky gets jumpy and the stars start falling on top of your head and the waves start breaking against your legs; It's the thread in your seams that's tied to your dreams. It's the sole in your feet that keep the beat; You're gonna be great, you're gonna be great, you're gonna be great; You're gonna find the cure, you're gonna be famous, you're gonna be shameless.

A bit of history was made last week in Washington, DC, as the world saw the International HIV/AIDS Conference return to the United States for the first time in twenty years. And as leaders in the response to this global epidemic, Levi Strauss & Co. and the Levi Strauss Foundation were honored to bring our pioneering spirit to the event.

Progress. In a word, that’s what this year’s International AIDS Conference is all about. This year, for the first time, scientists can see the real possibility of the end of HIV/AIDS in our lifetime.Progress is also the reason why the conference is being held in the United States, after more than two decades of being held oversees. You see, until recently the U.S. did not allow travelers with HIV to enter into the country, under a ban imposed in 1987. The U.S. government lifted the ban in 2010.Now, it’s our turn to carry the baton of progress.

One of the facts we tout here at Levi Strauss & Co. is the fact that our products are sold in more than 110 countries around the world. We think that’s significant. But it’s also worth noting that doing business outside the United States is nothing new for this company. In fact, we have been operating beyond the U.S. borders for at least 150 years.

As we grapple with sustainability challenges, we often forget that we’re not the first organisms learning to live here for the long haul. All organisms on Planet Earth have found a way to fit in – and interact – with others in a way that creates conditions conducive to life.As humans, we can learn from those organisms. Here at Biomimicry 3.8, we’re working with designers and others at Levi Strauss & Co. to bring biology to the design table. We believe nature can provide insights into sustainable design practices. And we love to watch as people reconnect with nature.

If homeless “street children” were among the most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS in your city, how would you reach them with what could be life-saving information? We recently told you how Alliance Ukraine used mobile clinics during Euro 2012 to raise HIV/AIDS awareness among soccer fans attending championship games. But they didn’t stop there.
