It’s safe to say the bullying hasn’t stopped. But we’d like to think the recent focus on the problem is having an impact. Of course, it’s a shame that it comes only after the recent, tragic suicides of at least five young people – bullied because they were either gay or perceived “different” in some way.

Kids are the coolest.
As today’s proof, we’ve got some totally cool, kid-created trading cards sent to us from Mrs. Adam’s second grade class at John Adams Elementary in Torrance, California.
On the front of each trading card: Our founder, Levi Strauss!

I confess: When I go to the grocery store, I sometimes forget my canvas bags. When the clerk asks the inevitable question, “Paper or plastic?” I’m stuck – asking myself, which one is better? These days it seems like everyone’s trying to make greener, more environmentally conscious choices.

No matter where in the world I travel – and I do my share – if I pick up a bottle of Coca-Cola, I know what I’m getting. It’s the same when I spot that familiar bottle of Absolut in a local market. There’s no mystery about what’s inside.I don’t typically mix Coke and Absolut, but in this case I will. These are two brands that are globally known, highly respected, and unfailingly consistent. And they’ve each reached this pinnacle by a relentless focus on the customer.

If there’s anything I like less than moving, I can’t think of it right now. Oh, okay. War. Pestilence. Hunger. Stuff like that. But moving isn’t far behind. Even the obligatory moving cuisine of beer and pizza can’t make the badness go away. We’ve just wrapped up moving day at the home office of Levi Strauss & Co. Many of my colleagues and I had been holed up in temporary quarters – just across the way here at Levi’s Plaza – while workers fully renovated the main building.

The woman had moved to California from Iraq and thought she’d left the explosions behind. Then one ripped through her San Bruno neighborhood last night – killing four people and destroying 38 homes.Of all the stories I scanned about the explosion, this one stuck with me. She left a country that has seen its share of war and upheaval, only to find death and destruction in her quiet, American neighborhood.

One of the reasons jeans remain so popular is that each pair takes on a unique pattern of wear and tear that changes over time. It doesn’t look old – it looks “lived in.” More personal. More “you.”A few years ago, designers realized that they could get a head start during the finishing process, creating a pair of jeans that already appears worn when you buy it.

Whether you read it in a newspaper or get it from someone “in the know,” you never really know if you have the best information unless you get it from the source.Otherwise, it’s like that game, “Telephone,” where one person tells another, who tells another and, in the end, the facts are lost.

Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue; for Francois Malan of South Africa, only Levi’s® blues would do.Francois wrote a letter to our Consumer Relations team with an urgent request. One of the coolest things about art, is that different people see different things in the same piece. In “Nothing is What it Seems,” Canadian Caleb Hill saw…a way to air dry his clothes. What judges saw in the Levi Strauss & Co. Care to Air Design Challenge was a winner.
