Given its San Francisco roots, it’s no surprise that the Dockers® brand should harken back to its West Coast origins for inspiration. That’s certainly the case with the brand’s new Art of Khaki collection. If the mod check shirting looks familiar, it’s likely because you’ve seen an image of Jack Kerouac or Lawrence Ferlinghetti or one of their Beat Generation contemporaries wearing one. (We own no rights, so you’ll have to Google it yourself.)

In the ongoing intrastate rivalry between San Francisco and Los Angeles, there’s one category in which compact San Francisco has a definite advantage: bicycling to work.At least, that’s my perspective.

I get a kick out of San Francisco’s commuter cyclists. I admire their daily bravery. A 25 or 30-pound bicycle vs. a 1.5-ton sedan. You do the math.Of course, I did go slack-jawed when I saw a cyclist cruising along a busy street last week with both hands on his smart phone, leaving none for his handlebars. I didn’t notice, but I hope he was wearing a helmet.Where am I going with this? To Levi’s® Commuter Series, of course!

We get letters.Working in Consumer Relations, of course, that makes sense. And a recent one made our day.On Christmas Day 1983, Mike MacDonnell got his first pair of Levi's®. That's him, pictured above, reading the jeans label on that Christmas morning.Mike recently wrote that his older stepbrother gave him the jeans, even going so far as to let Mike pick them out at the San Jose, Calif., Miller's Outpost before he wrapped them to put under the tree.

Curtis Romeo is a stylist at the Levi’s® Outlet I manage in St. Augustine, Florida. Earlier this week, he left the store to get a bite to eat and head to the martial arts class he teaches – on his motorcycle. You see where this is heading, right? On his way to class, another vehicle stopped short in front of him, and that led to Curtis flipping over his bike and sliding across the road. His motorcycle landed on top of him.

Today is Thursday, World Water Day. And today, I’m wearing the same jeans I was wearing Monday. And Tuesday. And Wednesday. And on top of that, I haven’t even washed them. It’s a dirty little habit.Fortunately, I’m joined by my Levi Strauss & Co. colleagues around the world. We’re celebrating the World Water Day by trying something a little different.

Odd jobs attract Morgan O’Kane. Before he performed at the Levi’s® show at New York Fashion Week on the banjo, O’Kane put his carpentry skills to work behind-the-scenes, building benches for similar runway events. But it was his musical skill that caught the ear of the Wall Street Journal reporter Hilke Schellmann, who interviewed O’Kane for a video series featuring interesting odd jobs at Fashion Week.

It’s a beautiful, bright morning, and you’re staring at your closet, waiting for inspiration to strike. What will you wear today? If this scenario sounds familiar, try borrowing some creativity from last week’s Levi’s® show at New York Fashion Week. The event celebrated the ritual of getting dressed, complete with vignettes representing the personal space, lifestyle and style of our modern day pioneers.
