Inspired?

The inspiration for Levi's® Spring 2012 collection was the small California coastal community of Sea Ranch. Ever been there? Beautiful and somewhat isolated, about a hundred miles north of San Francisco, Sea Ranch is a quiet mixture of ocean spray, native flora and only about 1,300 permanent residents. It's a favorite Bay Area escape-to-nature. So ... what did the Levi's® designers do with this inspiration?

Haus of Strauss Opens its Doors
to The Black Keys

Next time you see the Grammy-winning rock duo The Black Keys perform, see if they’re wearing their customized Levi’s® Trucker jackets. Our Haus of Strauss recently hosted Ohio’s finest and gave industry execs, DJ’s, and consumers their first-ever listen of the band's new album; El Camino. The duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney were on hand to talk about their music and share their love of Levi’s®.

Like We Said...

The whole idea behind our Care Tag for Our Planet is to encourage consumers to reduce the environmental impact of caring for their jeans. Our message is wash your clothes less often, wash in cold water, line or air dry, and donate unneeded clothes. A student at the Melbourne School of Design recently did some research on the whole "wash-less" approach. Turns out, it works just fine! Check out what Masters candidate Tulia Jack discovered -- in this video by the University of Melbourne.

Downey Down Under, With Denim

Have you ever had the experience of going to a foreign country and once you hit the streets you suddenly felt absolutely at home? That was my experience on a recent trip to Australia. I've just returned from Down Under. My traveling partners? Four pairs of vintage Levi’s® jeans: the XX, the 501® jean from 1879, also called The World’s Oldest Pair of Jeans; the Nevada, found in a dusty mining town; Lady Levi’s® jeans worn at an Arizona dude ranch in the 1930s; and a fun pair of girl’s striped flares from 1969.

A Blank, Black Canvas

If you use clothing to display your personal attitude and individuality, Levi’s® has just provided a blank, black canvas. That’s the idea behind Levi’s® Monochrome Capsule collection, which focuses on clean simple styles and a dark color palette that includes Black Point, Slam Grey and Petrol Blue. The monochromatic theme is carried out with tone-on-tone stitching, and the zipper, leather patch and metal buttons are all black.

More Jeans. Less Water.

I've always believed that businesses not only have the ability to change the world -- they have a duty to do so. It's this belief that has led me through my career. And to Levi's. To change things. Let me give you an example. Last year, we announced the Levi’s® Water<Less™ collection – denim finished in a way that uses significantly less water. Up to 96 percent less for some products.

Our Jeans. Your Pictures.

We love it when we receive pictures of consumers enjoying our product. We thought we'd share a few. Up top are twin brothers Gabriel, on the left, and Jacob, about to be buckled safely -- and stylishly! -- into their car seats. Below, you see father and son, Charles and Parker, enjoying some quiet bonding time together in their Levi's® jeans and overalls, respectively.

The Birth of Blue Jeans

138 years ago today, our company founder, Levi Strauss, and Reno tailor Jacob Davis received U.S. patent number 139,121 for the process of strengthening men’s work pants with copper rivets.  What does this mean? Nothing less than the invention of blue jeans. In fact, we call it the “birthday” of blue jeans.  We couldn’t find a cake big enough for everyone, but we did put together our top ten list of fun tidbits for you to nibble on.  Enjoy!

We're Surrounded. (And It's a Good Thing.)

If there’s anything I like less than moving, I can’t think of it right now. Oh, okay. War. Pestilence. Hunger. Stuff like that. But moving isn’t far behind. Even the obligatory moving cuisine of beer and pizza can’t make the badness go away. We’ve just wrapped up moving day at the home office of Levi Strauss & Co. Many of my colleagues and I had been holed up in temporary quarters – just across the way here at Levi’s Plaza – while workers fully renovated the main building.
