Haus of Strauss Opens its Doors
to The Black Keys

Next time you see the Grammy-winning rock duo The Black Keys perform, see if they’re wearing their customized Levi’s® Trucker jackets. Our Haus of Strauss recently hosted Ohio’s finest and gave industry execs, DJ’s, and consumers their first-ever listen of the band's new album; El Camino. The Amazingly Creative Sagmeister

One of the best parts of my work is interacting with amazingly creative people – at Levi’s® and beyond. In the “beyond” category, Stefan Sagmeister is up at the top. The Austrian-born artist is one of the most original graphic designers of his generation. And over the past several years, we’ve been lucky enough to work with Stefan on several projects.

Andy Warhol, Statuesque in Levi's®

Gothamist.com summed it up well: Andy Warhol is getting an extension on his 15 minutes of fame. Yesterday evening, “The Andy Monument” was unveiled in New York’s Union Square, in front of Warhol’s Factory Studio of the 1970s and ‘80s.

We Get Letters: From a Brooklyn Artist

Randy Wray is an artist and a fan of Levi’s® jeans. He merges the two in his Brooklyn home, creating works of art from recycled denim and so much more. Randy recently shared some pictures of his works, as well as some words describing what he does. We thought you might like to see them. His work reminds us of a recent recycled denim case study we developed in partnership with the San Francisco Art Institute.

Pas de Denim

In ballet, the term pas de deux means “step of two. In New Orleans, they’re doing a pas de deux – or two – in denim. In Levi’s® jeans, to be precise. And precision is what ballet is all about, right? The work is entitled “The Sweeter End,” performed by The Trey McIntyre Project and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. It’s for the New Orleans Ballet Association. The costumes are by Andrea Lauer, who also used Levi’s® for “American Idiot,” the Broadway musical.

Hand-Crafted Surfing

Danny Hess makes his surfboards the old fashioned way: by hand, one-at-a-time, with wood. It’s his passion.

And a lot of the surfers who borrow one for a test ride end up buying one. That helps Danny keep his passion alive.

He tells his story himself much better than I ever could. In this Dockers® video, you’ll learn how Danny took a chance...and now earns his living…doing something he loves.

Full Frontal. Graphic, Too.

Cool is subjective - in my opinion a cool T is based on brand relevance, it depends on where it comes from and where it’s going. A bad T is a design that exploits current predictable pop culture art / design trends. I think a brand should represent its own original vision.

Chilly in London

Sometimes you can submerge yourself in London culture. Sometimes you need an escape. Tucked away, last night, inside the bare-bricked surroundings of Levi’s flagship store, pianist, singer and entertainer, Chilly Gonzalez provided just that– a place to get away.
