How many times have you said to yourself, “There’s gotta be a better way?”
It usually happens when you’re doing something that causes you to break a sweat. So, it may not come to mind when you’re doing your laundry, but … we’re convinced … there’s gotta be a better way … to dry your clothes.

I’ve been biking to work since October. Before that, I lived much closer to the office and I walked. It’s about a three-mile ride each way, and since it’s San Francisco, I battle a few hills both ways, plus a lot of headwind on the way home. Still, it’s a lot of fun.

If you “wear the pants,” you have to go beyond being a rough-and-tumble kind of guy. It’s not just about defending your honor or, for that matter, mowing the lawn. You also have to know when to show your softer, more chivalrous side.

I have a passion for recycling and reuse, which I’ve shared in my book, Reconstructing Clothes for Dummies. I’ve also opened two stores — my own boutique, Miranda Caroligne, and cooperative local artist boutique, TRUNK — that sell all locally made designs, including clothes made from materials that might’ve otherwise ended up in a landfill.

Today is not a typical Wednesday here. Far from it.
Once a year, Levi Strauss & Co. encourages its employees to skip work … and volunteer in their communities. For employees in North America, today’s the day. And it is anything but “a day off.”

I pledge allegiance to…
If you buy a pair of jeans at a Levi’s® retail store today, Saturday, May 1, you’ll be asked to sign a pledge. In doing so, you’ll agree to a few simple actions:
- Washing your jeans in cold water
- Line drying them
- And, years from now, recycling them through Goodwill
