Mixing Coca-Cola and Absolut

No matter where in the world I travel – and I do my share – if I pick up a bottle of Coca-Cola, I know what I’m getting. It’s the same when I spot that familiar bottle of Absolut in a local market. There’s no mystery about what’s inside.

I don’t typically mix Coke and Absolut, but in this case I will. These are two brands that are globally known, highly respected, and unfailingly consistent. And they’ve each reached this pinnacle by a relentless focus on the customer.

We Love You, Steven Alan!

Steven Alan’s approach to khaki design? “Eliminating the doofy-ness.”

At least, that’s what he told the New York Times.

I think he did it.

We're Surrounded. (And It's a Good Thing.)

If there’s anything I like less than moving, I can’t think of it right now. Oh, okay. War. Pestilence. Hunger. Stuff like that. But moving isn’t far behind. Even the obligatory moving cuisine of beer and pizza can’t make the badness go away.

We’ve just wrapped up moving day at the home office of Levi Strauss & Co. Many of my colleagues and I had been holed up in temporary quarters – just across the way here at Levi’s Plaza – while workers fully renovated the main building.

Ari Gold's Assistant -- A Dream Job???

If there’s one job I would not want, it’s being the assistant to Ari Gold, the abrasive manager on the HBO series Entourage. I’ll leave that to actor Jonathan Keltz, who plays the role of Jake.

Even if you don’t have HBO – or a television, for that matter – you’ve no doubt heard of the cable channel’s comedy/drama take on life in Hollywood.

Of Explosions and Hope

The woman had moved to California from Iraq and thought she’d left the explosions behind. Then one ripped through her San Bruno neighborhood last night – killing four people and destroying 38 homes.

Of all the stories I scanned about the explosion, this one stuck with me. She left a country that has seen its share of war and upheaval, only to find death and destruction in her quiet, American neighborhood.

It's Time to Ban Sandblasting

One of the reasons jeans remain so popular is that each pair takes on a unique pattern of wear and tear that changes over time. It doesn’t look old – it looks “lived in.” More personal. More “you.”

A few years ago, designers realized that they could get a head start during the finishing process, creating a pair of jeans that already appears worn when you buy it.

Wash My Jeans? Hardly.

If you hate doing laundry, you may want to limit the bottom half of your wardrobe to blue jeans…and follow Carl Chiara’s credo: The less you wash your jeans, the better your jeans become.

Carl – and his laissez faire approach to denim care – was featured in yesterday’s "Tricks of the Trade" column in The Wall Street Journal. (Business news, financial updates and, now, fashion tips. Who knew?)

Wear What Fits. Rock Your Curve!

Let’s just say this – when a woman finds a pair of jeans that fits AND makes her look and feel fabulous, well, it’s nothing short of a fashion miracle.

That being the case – there were miracles galore this last Friday in Bryant Park where around 2,000 women lined up to donate a pair of jeans to Goodwill and receive a personalized fitting for a free pair of Levi’s® Curve ID jeans.

Setting the Record Straight

Whether you read it in a newspaper or get it from someone “in the know,” you never really know if you have the best information unless you get it from the source.

Otherwise, it’s like that game, “Telephone,” where one person tells another, who tells another and, in the end, the facts are lost.
