For Women, An Investment With a Positive Return

It’s a safe bet all of the clothes you’re wearing right now were made by women. In factories around the world, it’s largely women who cut the patterns, sew the seams and make the buttonholes.

So it makes sense that giving these women the information they need to live better, healthier lives would be in the best interest of the factories that hire them.

That’s the idea behind HERproject.

We first told you about it in March. Now, we have some new information to share.

Khakis Gone Wild

The folks at Dockers® brand have just launched their new Alpha Khaki. "Where jeans end and khakis begin," is the tagline.

To kick off the launch, Dockers® asked the Boxtick America guys to survive a night in the Colorado Wilderness in Alpha Khakis.

It's been a long week, right? You deserve a laugh at the lads' expense. Have at it...here:

Pioneering Spirit? Grab a Broom.

As we all watch what’s happening in London and other UK cities, it’s somewhat hard to see glimmers of hope in the violence, death and destruction.

But if you look closely, you’ll see it. And it’s not in the riots and mayhem. Far from it.

RIP, Radical Industrialist

When Ray Anderson died this week, Planet Earth lost an advocate.

Ray was the founder of Interface Inc., the company that makes Flor carpeting, among other floor coverings. It's one of the largest and most successful companies of its kind. He was also a person who, in the mid-1990s, influenced a shift in the company’s environmental strategy.

When you consider the role of petrochemicals in making carpet, you understand what a huge shift this was.

Best Levi's® Video Ever?

The words of Charles Bukowski's The Laughing Heart are the centerpiece of the Levi's® brand's latest video, Legacy. This is the brand's first-ever global video and part of its Go Forth campaign.

I'm biased, of course, but think it's worth a minute of your time. May I recommend watching in HD?

Handmade Hope in Guatemala...and at Levi's®

The people – that’s what inspired me most when I first lived in Guatemala as a college student.

The strength, determination, and spirit of Guatemala’s indigenous people, despite the unspeakable hardships they had endured and the battles they are still fighting today: poverty, discrimination, illiteracy, and malnutrition.

The indigenous people of Guatemala completely captured my heart. I felt an obligation to partner with them and to be part of a solution: to connect them to the resources and markets they needed to build a better future.

The Blind Barber Wears the Pants

If you’re this side of cool, you’ve probably heard of the Blind Barber. In New York’s East Village, it’s a place where you can get a $40 haircut or a $30 shave, accompanied by a drink.

A bar with barbers. But we’re assured that the barbers themselves aren’t imbibing on the job. As co-owner Josh Boyd told the New York Times, “Barbers, razors, scissors and booze,” he said, “no.”

Dressing Smart – On the Job and on the Town.

My love for fashion and design started at a young age when my mom taught me how to sew. Growing up, and even throughout college while I studied neuroscience, I knew I needed an outlet to express my creativity. At the time, I didn’t have a TV, so the sewing machine and stereo became the faithful companions to my design and clothes-making. I created my own tube tops and stretch cropped pants using fabric from the store across the street, and even once made a cocktail dress out of cocktail napkins!

Lights! Camera! iPhone!

In the summer sci-fi flick Super 8, some movie-making middle-schoolers uncover an out-of-this-world monster. The discovery happens as they’re using their Super 8 camera to make a film of their own.

If the movie has inspired you to channel your inner J.J. Abrams or Stephen Spielberg – the guys behind Super 8 – chances are, you’re more likely to have access to a camera phone than a movie camera.

As it turns out, there’s an app for that! And it’s free for, as they say, a limited time only.

Wedding Announcement

Today, New York will observe – and recognize – its first legal, same-sex marriages.

The ceremonies follow last month’s action by New York lawmakers to approve marriage equality -- an action that we, as a company, applaud.

Why do we care? For us, it’s all about equality.
