We'll Open the Door for You

Walk past all too many European “High Street” stores -- including our own -- and you’ll find doors wide open. On top of that, you’ll be hit by a blast of air – an air curtain – that separates inside from out.

It’s as if the retailer is trying to heat or cool – depending on the season – the great outdoors.

That’s not the goal, of course. Such a doorway is simply a retailer’s way of saying, “We’re open for business – please come in!” But it does make you wonder.

Couldn't help but share a couple of New York Fashion Week hits with you.

Chinese New Year, Singapore-style

Imagine this: A group of people, about to have lunch, stand up from their seats. Salad ingredients start to fly. Auspicious Chinese phrases fill the air. Chopsticks are dropped (or should I say, thrown) into the giant salad bowl. Food falls on hands and arms on its way back down to the salad bowl. And aim for height while tossing! The higher the food is tossed into the air, the more fortunes for the coming year!

Coming Soon: Explorers

Later this month, six lucky people from different cultures will be selected for what promises to be the journey of a lifetime. This isn’t one of those global television racing adventures. It’s part of the Denizen™ brand’s new campaign, We Are Explorers.

Permanent. Sharp. Crease.

That’s how the Levi’s® brand describes its new Sta–Prest™ line.

Yes, that’s right, Sta-Prest™. What goes around, comes around, huh?

It was 1964 when the brand introduced its first line of Sta-Prest™ pants. One of the advertising slogans back then was, “Washed 33 Times!” In other words, a Sta-Prest™-treated garment could still retain its crease after that many washings.

It's a Pitti

Of the 1,100 exhibitors descending upon Florence earlier this month to show their apparel, it’s a safe bet that only Dockers® brought a bear.

In this case, the bear was Bear Grylls. He wasn’t actually at Pitti Uomo in person, but the trade fair provided the perfect opportunity for us to introduce Bear as the face of the current Dockers® global marketing campaign.

And Now For Something Completely Different

The first pop-up mall is up and running in London. A pop-up mall. Now, that's different.

And Levi Strauss & Co. is there -- times two! Both Dockers® and Levi’s® have stores – shipping containers, actually -- at what’s known as Boxpark Shoreditch.

Shoreditch is, among other things, an area of London and is served by the Shoreditch High Street Station on the London Overground. Developers would like to build a shopping mall at the station.

A Better Tomorrow? Show Us The Way.

Seriously, show us how it’s done.

The Levi’s® brand has teamed up with the American Film Institute and is calling on filmmakers to deliver a visualization of a better tomorrow.

Once you submit your treatment here, you’ll be considered to produce a five-minute short film about a tomorrow that is better than today.

There will be six winners, each of whom will receive $5,000 to make their film, as well as an additional $500 for a Levi’s® wardrobe for their cast.

Greenlight for Sustainability

At Levi Strauss & Co., we’re working to build sustainability into everything we do. But we can’t restore the planet alone. So it makes sense to tell others what we’re doing – and hope they’re inspired to make a difference themselves.

This week, my Brussels-based colleagues and I had just such an opportunity. We partnered with Greenlight for Girls, whose ambitious mission is to inspire young girls to change the world.
