What Took So Long?

If you tuned in to NPR’s All Things Considered on Thursday, you might’ve thought you were eavesdropping on a sidewalk conversation between two women – about blue jeans.

In this case, the two women happened to be NPR Anchor Michelle Norris and Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post fashion writer Robin Ghivan.

“Most women would rather eat their toenails than go shopping for jeans” is how Norris introduced the conversation.

She continued: Shopping for jeans is like trying to find a well-fitting string bikini – if you’re not built like a 12-year-old boy.”

Since I’m a guy, I can’t relate. But I’ve heard complaints along these lines from women for most of my adult life – or, at least, since blue jeans became de rigueur in American and, for that matter, global fashion.

Norris noted that the Levi’s® brand had taken notice “of the broad range of backsides” among women and is introducing women’s jeans that focus not on size, but on shape. That new line is Levi’s® Curve ID.

I can’t do the conversation justice here, so have a listen below and you’ll quickly get sucked into the back and forth between Norris and Ghivan about the difficulty they – and all women – have in finding a pair of well-fitting blue jeans.

Afterward, if you’re a woman, you may find yourself rushing to your favorite retailer to try on a pair of Levi’s® Curve ID jeans. You’ve waited long enough.

As Norris so aptly asked, “What took them so long?”

Apparently, she's tired...of eating toenails.
