Couldn't help but want to call your attention to an article in today's San Francisco Chronicle, highlighting the work of our company historian, Lynn Downey. That's Lynn in the Chronicle picture above, by photographer Yue Wu, holding the world's oldest pair of Levi's® 501® jeans.
See more pictures and reporter Ellen Lee's Q&A with Lynn here.

That is a REAL job? OMG - how ca I apply for this DREAM job? I just did this in my OWN closet! I am going through a divorce after 30 years and selling and moving and life changing stuff.......and my biggest heartbreaking concern is throwing out dozens and dozens of pairs of LOVING AWESOME LIFE FILLED LEVIS! The shapes and sizes and stonewashing was awash with history and eras! The waists went from high to low and somewhere in between. The pockets followed the waists with highs and lows. The legs included every width, length, flare and skinny. Some even got fancier with zips and flips and colored Levis pocket stitching! Oh if those Levis could talk !hmmmm - maybe it's good they can't. But they do talk to me.... I did keep a few (yes a very old - maybe OLDER than yours? - pair of 501s) Levi Love - its always better in a pair!

Why hide the jeans? Why hide the actual age? Why the article at all if these are not mentioned? I think a lot of people would like to actually see the "oldest" jeans and maybe the story behind them instead of the story being an employee is holding them.
Editor's note: Thanks, Mr. Hall, for your comment. The San Francisco Chronicle is responsible for the article. We just pointed readers to it. You can learn more about the jeans and other items in our archives in this video and in the Heritage section of this website.
