A Small Gesture in the Wake of Tremendous Loss

There’s no way to know the hurt and loss of those who’ve suffered through the recent spring storms and tornadoes in parts of the U.S. Among the most recent victims, the residents of Joplin, Missouri.

You’ve, no doubt, seen images of the devastation. Here are some pictures of what was the Academy Sports and Outdoors store in Joplin.

Joplin 1

Academy is one of our customers. Fortunately, none of its employees at this store died in the storm. But of course, the death toll in Joplin is now up to more than 120. The toll for all of the South and Midwest is nearing 500.

There’s not much we can do to ease the pain, loss and suffering. But the Levi Strauss Foundation has made contributions to the American Red Cross for disaster relief totaling $70,000, half of which is designated for Joplin.

The severity of the damage is brought home by these images.

If you want to help the Red Cross help disaster victims, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. You can also text the word “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
