I don’t know about you, but I think that being a woman, or a girl or a chick or whatever you prefer to call yourself – is pretty awesome.
That’s not to say life isn’t full of challenges, but women in their twenties or “Millennials,” as the researchers like to call them, literally and figuratively have the world at their fingertips.
And it’s a very different world we're living in than it was just ten years ago.
But it’s not just the world that’s different – the Millennials are different too.
They grew up in an environment shaped by 9/11, smart phones and the Great Recession.
And despite all that, they’re just as determined and inspired as ever to change the world for the better.
They’re also fiercely independent. Which I think is pretty cool.
But they still see the value of coming together. Which I think is even cooler.
The Levi’s® brand listened to women ages 21 to 29 from around the world and created Shape What’s to Come – an on-line community for women from all walks of life to connect with other like-minded women to share ideas, collaborate and get advice on everything from fashion and art to media and social change.
The community will include Millennial celebrities who are shaping the future in their own way – like Janelle Monae and Zooey Deschanel.
Zooey, by the way, is going to be doing a live webcast with her band mate, Matt Ward of She & Him, at 1 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 18, to talk about what inspired them to collaborate. Click here for an exclusive song download.
In addition to Janelle and Zooey, there are twenty inspiring Millennial “ambassadors” in the online community — ranging from up-and-coming artists and performers to entrepreneurs and advocates for social change — who will definitely keep the conversations going.
So it’s kind of like one of the other really great aspects of being a woman – having girlfriends who are there for you when you need them.
Check it out. Shape your future.
