Lewis Carroll once wrote, “…all that is really worth doing is what we do for others.”
It’s true, you know. And it’s one of the reasons I enjoy working at Levi Strauss & Co. – because of the company’s commitment to the communities where we work and live.
And that includes near Guangzhou, China. Here’s what I mean…
Back in December, as part of our Giving Back at the Holidays, a group of employees, led by my colleague Ray Yang, decided to help some rural children.
The idea was to take a company donation, add to it with additional contributions from employees, and donate 50 packages of school supplies to 50 children living in the countryside of Guangzhou. The employees partnered with STARS Youth Development Center, which works to help rural Chinese kids improve their education, including their reading skills.
Along with the packages, each employee wrote a post card to a child, and some of the employees visited the school to personally deliver the packages and spend time with the children.
This week, the employees received a surprise of their own – post cards from some of the children. The employee team wasn’t expecting anything in return, and certainly nothing as priceless as these small works of art. Have a look!

That is so neat to hear that Levi's is giving back to the Guangzhou community! I'm currently a Retail Merchandising student studying abroad in Hangzhou, China, not too far away. I love following the Levi's blog and seeing all the great things the company does!

So wonderful hearing about good happenings in the world. I have never been one to just willy-nilly sub to blogs, but the LS&C blog is a pleasure to read and I always look forward to reading it. Thanks.

It is a great story - as we give back, it is priceless when we even get a return!
