Editor’s note: We get letters! And some tell of pretty amazing stories. For instance, Paula Camp (pictured above) writes from Stockton, Calif. about her recent motorcycle accident that was bad – but, she says, could’ve been a lot worse, were it not for her Levi’s® jeans.
My name is Paula Camp. I'm writing to you because I believe my Levi’s® 501® Shrink-to-Fit jeans saved my leg and hip from serious injury in a terrible motorcycle accident last month.
On May 11, I was riding my Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe on I-580 in the Altamont Pass, east of San Francisco. My husband was in front on his Harley-Davidson Road Glide, and we were traveling east on our way home to Stockton after a great ride to the San Francisco Bay Area.
We were traveling in the far-left lane, about 30 minutes from home, when a 10-car pile-up occurred about 50 yards directly in front of us. Traffic in the next lane over was slowing and, boxed in, I had no choice but to lay my back down while traveling at 50 miles per hour.
I slid 10-15 yards on my left side. Fortunately for me, I had on my full-face helmet, boots and my Levi’s® 501® Shrink-to-Fit jeans.
I lost 75% of the skin on my left arm in the slide and suffered terrible swelling, bruising of entire left side, hip, stomach and ribs – but I had no abrasions in the area covered by my jeans.
There was only a small, one-quarter-inch tear on the knee and an even smaller tear on back pocket, where I was carrying my iPod.
The emergency medical technicians were amazed that I had no abrasions on my leg and hip. They wanted to cut my jeans to provide medical treatment, but I refused. I told them there’s no way they’re cutting my lucky jeans after they saved me from further injury.
The responding California Highway Patrol officers and fire fighters were also amazed that my entire lower body had no abrasions.
As I recover from this accident, I continue to remind myself how fortunate I am to have walked away from it. I’m really glad I had on my Levi’s® 501® Shrink-to-Fit Jeans, which I will always wear when I ride!
It also helped that some guardian angels were there. :-)
Keep making those jeans! Thank you!
Sincerely yours,
Paula Camp (a/k/a Superwoman)

Hey There Paula Camp, I am so happy that those beautiful legs were protected. Lol. You know you were on my mind a lot during the month of may and now that I know why. I am so grateful that you are okay and on your way to a speedy recovery. I love you and miss you and hope that you will just ride a pedal bike for a little while. Thank God for Levis and You From Louisiana with love

Dear Readers I'm a Levis jeans fan forever. I know how much research R&D and hard work goes in to these Levis denims as i m a denim professional myself. Its great that pauls survived and i share my belief that her pair of Levi's jeans protected her from greater damage. As we all know number of motorcycle riders is increasing every year as its so much fun that it will draw more and more people every year. So is our awareness towards safety and protective gear. Recently there new denim fabrics like Kevlar denim not kevalr lined denim jeans but where fabric is made with Kevlar. its light weight its cut and abrasion resistant. Other alternatives like Spectra Denim, Cordura Denim , Kevlar, Nomex denim have come around. just fantastic fabrics which offer safety against road damage to skin, light weight and beautiful looking. I m sure Levis is working on these fabrics to add to their line for biker's. So , ride safe.... till next time Ali Suqrat

Get well Paula. I guess I will be pretty safe being I am in my Levi 501's most of the time. I'll even throw on a black pair of Levis 501's with a dress shirt and a sport coat to go out to a restaurant. They are more comfortable than anything else in my closet.. Thanks Sir David
