I Found My New Favorite Jean (With a Little Help)

Ten years ago, Maggie Myers bought her favorite pair of jeans at a Levi’s® store. She emailed to tell us that after so many years of rough wear, it was time to replace them.

I’d say a decade is a pretty good run for a pair of jeans – and a testament to both their craftsmanship and sustainability.

It makes sense that Maggie would turn to Levi’s® to find a new favorite jean. For her, that meant a trip to the Levi’s® store at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Mich., about a half-hour northwest of Detroit.

Maggie says she went on a busy Friday night and the store was packed. She found store supervisor Marcus Norman, who helped her try on pair after pair of women’s boyfriend jeans, the style she was after, but she left empty-handed.

She vowed to return to check out other sizes, but over the next week, Maggie she also tried “every retailer known to man for a jean that fit 'just so.'” Still, no luck.

So, Maggie returned to the Twelve Oaks Levi’s® store. And when she walked in, Marcus remembered her. “Hey! You’re back!” he exclaimed.

She was stunned that he remembered her – and the fact that she was looking for boyfriend jeans.

Marcus had an idea. How about trying men’s cut?

Joined by associate Christina Hall, the three worked through a number of styles until they found what Maggie calls, “my new favorite jeans.” What worked for her were Levi’s® 508™ jeans. (That's Maggie wearing her new 508s™ in the picture above, along with her dog, Mara.)

She credits the patience and attentiveness of both Chris and Marcus for helping her find her “new best thing.”

When I shared Maggie’s email with store manager Tara Lennon, she was thrilled. “This is exactly the kind of consumer experience we’re striving for in our store, and I’m so happy – but not surprised – that Chris and Marcus delivered for Maggie,” Tara told me. “That’s the kind of service I want this store to be known for.”

We’re happy Maggie took the time to share her story. And we trust she’ll have many years of enjoyment from her new favorite jeans. But we hope she doesn’t wait another ten years to buy a new pair!

See you soon, Maggie!

I am very disappointed in my last purchase of Levis. I owned and operated a dairy farm, a farm, and a ranch during my working years and through all that, I wore Levis 517s. After I retired, I still wore them because I have always considered them the most comfortable and versatile apparel a man (especially in Texas) could wear. In retirement I like to have my jeans starched and ironed at a commercial laundry. When they are done this way, I can wear them several times and they still look sharp. When Levi closed its American shop and sent the manufacture to Mexico, the inseams were no longer flat felled (sewn down). When those loose seams are starched, they act like a file on the inner thigh. Not good. I have been looking for comparable jeans ever since. Recently I gave up and bought Levi 527s. Thankfully, their inseams are sewn down. However, the denim fabric is what I would call "flimsy." I suppose they are made for the younger set who like the feel, but I miss the substantial quality of the American or even Mexican made jean. These were made in Pakistan. I hope they start to plant cotton over there that they can make some decent denim out of. Looking forward to better 517s.

Editor's note: Hi Kellam. (Great name, by the way.) The Levi's® brand makes its jeans in a variety of weights. If your recent purchase seems too lightweight for you, you might want to look in stores or on Levi.com for the same style jean in a heavier weight. And the weights we offer tend to be lighter in spring and summer seasons, so you'll find heavier weights available in fall and winter. In terms of quality, we stand behind our product -- against manufacturer's defects -- regardless of where they're made. So if you believe yours to be faulty, please let us know by calling (800) USA-LEVI. Thanks, Kellam.

Dear Cory, This is great, Because, during my stint of fifteen years working with LS&Co. I had the opportunity to advise a number of women that I know, that if you want a good pair of jeans that fit real well, it won't matter if you are trying on men's or women;s fit's, so long as they fit the way you want, look good and you feel great in... well, 505 and 508, was a fit that went down well with a number of them. On a man they were straight and comfortable but on a woman, due to their vital statistics, the fit was more snug. In fact, men's 501 also fit a number of women real well depending on the VS. Kudos to Marcus I guess, a man after my own heart or the other way around. This proves once again, that for every problem there will always be a solution. And quality will never go out of style. l Best Regards, Randy.

Editor's note: Thanks, Randy. Great to hear from you, and what you say makes sense: It's all about the fit!
