July 4th is arguably the most American of United States holidays.
We call it Independence Day, marking when the country’s founders, in 1776, declared independence from Great Britain. No hard feelings, eh, friends?
In reviewing the news this week, we found a Forbes piece on “most patriotic brands” particularly intriguing.
The fact that Levi Strauss & Co. was tied for number three on the list is, no doubt, why this caught our eye. And we are clearly in good company.
Suffice to say, if you wanted to strut your red-white-and-blue stuff by putting some of the most patriotic brands to good use today, you could drive your Jeep (#1) to a theme park owned by Disney (tied with Levi Strauss for #3) while washing down a candy bar from Hershey with a Coca-Cola (both tied at #2) as you wear a pair of Levi’s® jeans.
Going even further with this bit of conspicuous patriotic consumption, you’d brush your teeth with toothpaste from Colgate (#4) and light any fireworks – safe and sane, of course – with a Zippo (#5) lighter.
We’re not encouraging any of this, of course, other than the Levi’s® part. But we do wish you a happy and safe 4th of July, whether you’re in the United States, celebrating the holiday, or elsewhere in the world, where it’s just another Thursday.
