The 2012 Global Fashion Awards are intended to recognize and reward brilliance in fashion and retail design across the globe. The awards are staged by fashion forecaster WGSN.
A new award category this year is the Denim Design Team, and WGSN's description laid out the challenge for the competitors very well:
Denim remains a growing and influential fashion category with new and exciting labels launching every season. In this new category for the Global Fashion Awards 2012, our judges will be looking for the design team that produces the most compelling denim offer (for men, women, kids and juniors – or all of them) and that consistently stays ahead on trend and innovation in fit, fabric, color and finish.

Given that challenge, imagine how excited we were to learn that Levi's® -- the brand that invented the denim jean -- and its Commuter Team won the award.
Up against stiff competition, including Isko, G-Star and Current/Elliott, the Commuter team's innovative take on form, function and cycling was judged best.
Kudos to the brand, including John Colonna and Jewon Yu, pictured left, who represented the Levi's® Commuter team at the recent awards event in London.
