CNN: It All Began With...Copper Rivets

If you check in here -- LS&Co. Unzipped -- on a regular basis, you probably know that 2013 marks the 140th birthday of the Levi's® 501® jean. We've recently shared stories on the topic.

The actual birth date? May 20.

That's when a patent was issued to Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis for strengthening trousers with copper rivets. Perfect workwear for those involved in the tough job of building the American West.

The folks at CNN spoke to a couple of folks here to find out more: Vice President of Levi's® Global Design Jonathan Kirby and Levi Strauss & Co. Historian Lynn Downey. The news channel aired their story just this week, as part of its Make, Create, Innovate series, and we thought reporter Nick Glass did a fine job of sharing our company's history.

What do you think? (And yes, you'll have to watch an advert first.)
