Odds are, you know about Braddock, the former steel town outside Pittsburgh that has seen better days.
In part because of its mayor, John Fetterman, and a number of other dedicated individuals, Braddock has made something of a comeback. But there’s still much to be done – to fix what’s broken.
The Levi’s® brand decided music might help.
This past weekend, as part of an ongoing effort to support the town, the brand staged “Benefit Braddock” – three nights of music in the town’s historic Carnegie public library – the first Carnegie library ever established.
Each night, the 600-person capacity building was sold out. The library and surrounding community came to life as the music of a variety of artists poured forth. Artists included Andrew Bird (pictured above), Built to Spill, The Hold Steady, Kurt Vile, Titus Andronicus (below) and Atlas Sound.
All ticket sales went to support the town’s rebuilding efforts, as did a financial contribution made by the Levi’s® brand.
“Benefit Braddock” is a continuation of an effort by the Levi’s brand to shine a light on how vision and hard work can not only change one community, but also help to inspire people around the world.
Will the brand’s work in Braddock solve all of the town’s problems? Of course not.
But progress – even incremental – is movement in the right direction. And that’s the direction the people of Braddock are going.
Go Forth.
