If you’re wearing Levi’s® Water<Less™ jeans, you can walk a little taller today. Those jeans are now award-winning!
In London last night, The Guardian newspaper announced their 2011 Sustainable Business Awards. And in the category of Water, Levi Strauss & Co. won for its Water<Less™ jeans.
Here’s some of what the Guardian had to say in announcing the award:
Anyone can create a jean using less water. The real challenge facing product designers was to find innovative techniques to create the same styles and finishes the Levi's® brand is known and loved for while using a lot less water.
By making simple changes to the finishing process the company was able to come up with Water<Less™ jeans, reducing water consumption by an average of 28% and up to 96%.
And the judging panel had this to say:
"When you look at the Levi's® example it begs the question: 'Why aren't others doing this already?'"
We’re also proud to say that Levi Strauss & Co. was “long listed” in the Guardian’s Social Impact category for leading a worldwide ban on sandblasting. Sandblasting is used to give jeans and denim a distressed look, but without proper controls, it can harm workers. Learn more about our call for a ban here in a blog post from our chief supply chain officer, David Love.
