AIDS Care China (2012) AIDS Care China, founded and led by Thomas Cai, works with the Chinese public health system to address stigma and discrimination against people affected with HIV/AIDS. The Levi Strauss Foundation funds organizations like AIDS Care China, which promote the health and rights of disadvantaged populations who are disproportionally affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
La Cocina (2011) The Levi Strauss Foundation is a strong supporter of La Cocina, an organization based in San Francisco that helps low-income women start and grow their food businesses. The aim is for these women to have access to financial, marketing and business opportunities that will allow them to transform their passion into full-fledged livelihoods for them and their families.
Mercado Global (2010) Mercado Global is a cutting-edge nonprofit, Fair Trade organization with an innovative approach to fighting poverty and empowering indigenous women in Guatemala’s highlands. It does so by connecting the artisan cooperatives to which these women belong to sales opportunities in the U.S. on an unprecedented scale.
WAGES (2010) WAGES’ mission is to build worker-owned green businesses that create healthy, dignified jobs for low-income women. The organization launches cooperatives that help women develop personal and professional skills, become leaders and gain economic security.
HERproject (2010) HERproject advances women’s health education programs in factories around the world, with the goal of reaching the millions of women working in global supply chains.
