Program Areas
The Red Tab Foundation’s overarching goal is to strengthen the lives of LS&CO. employees and retirees and their families through economic assistance and empowerment. The Foundation’s efforts to accomplish this goal are guided by two key strategies:
Providing a Financial Safety Net for Employees and Retirees
From 1990-2007, the Foundation has provided 8,000 employees and retirees throughout the world with grants totaling more than $8 million.
Most employee grants are precipitated by an unexpected emergency that impacts their ability to meet monthly household expenses. RTF’s retiree program, which assists thousands of LS&CO. retirees living on fixed incomes, provides basic necessities to those who cannot afford them. Eyeglasses, hearing aids, critical home repairs, and emergency dental work are the most common retiree requests for assistance.
Financial Literacy and Asset-Building Programs
In addition to its safety net program, the Foundation has introduced proactive educational programs designed to enhance employees’ financial skills and abilities. Workshops developed by the Foundation with other non-profit entities have enabled RTF to bring basic economic information and resources to employees in US and international facilities.
Current examples of RTF’s workshops and communications campaigns include the Money School and a Tax Credit Campaign. There is also a pilot program in development for 2006 to encourage asset-building and help employees save money for their dependents’ educations.
Red Tab Scholars
In 2008, RTF introduced Red Tab Scholars, a global program that provides scholarships to the dependents of Levi Strauss & Co. employees.
Scholarships are awarded to students with the greatest financial need. The application deadline for the 2008 – 2009 school year is April 25, 2008. Learn more.
