Issues in Responsible Sourcing

Implementing our Terms of Engagement (TOE) over the years has been a learning experience for Levi Strauss & Co. Working with our suppliers, we have achieved successes and encountered difficult issues. We have seen very positive results and at times been frustrated by the inherent limitations of the factory monitoring model.

With some issues, we are able to identify solutions quickly that can be applied across our entire source base. With others, historical and cultural factors come into play making each specific situation unique.

We have come to accept that there are no easy answers to many of the issues associated with global sourcing, and we will be presented with new issues as our responsible sourcing program continues to evolve.

We are proud of our accomplishments to date, but we recognize that there will always be room for improvement in factory working conditions and supplier accountability. Working with nongovernmental organizations, governments, other brands, academics and business partners we will continue to seek out and find opportunities to make those improvements.
