Our Mission

The Levi Strauss Foundation advances the human rights and well being of underserved people touched by our business by taking courageous risks, supporting innovative community partnerships, and promoting the practice of good corporate citizenship.

Guiding Principles

Three principles guide our approach:

  • A belief in empowering individuals and communities to identify their most important issues and to participate in solving them.
  • A resolve to address social biases and inequalities and their impact on people and communities touched by our business.
  • A commitment to work with other funders and to encourage the collaborative efforts of our grantees

Funding Approach

We strive for focus and effectiveness in our grant making. Our program staff adopts a proactive, "hands on" approach in identifying partnerships that advance our strategic goals within each of the issue areas we support. We do not accept unsolicited proposals.

Geographic Focus

We fund organizations in communities around the world where our employees and contractors' employees live and work.

We do not make grants to individuals, nor do we fund the following:

  • Capital or endowment campaigns or building funds
  • Sports teams or athletic competitions
